9°–10° Scottish Rite Degrees

Elu of the Nine & Elu of the Fifteen

May 15, 2026 – Santa Monica Masonic Center

The Los Angeles Valley of the Scottish Rite invites you to attend the conferral of the 9th and 10th Degrees on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 7:00 PM, at the Santa Monica Masonic Center.

Directed by Wor. Jason Berry, 32°, this evening continues the profound lessons of the Ineffable Degrees, exploring justice, truth, and the struggle against ignorance and tyranny.

Ninth Degree – Elu of the Nine

This degree teaches the necessity of vigilance and the pursuit of truth. It reminds us that ignorance is the enemy of freedom, and that knowledge must be sought and shared. The candidate is called to enlightenment of both mind and spirit, and to act with courage and integrity in the face of injustice.

Key Lessons:

  • Ignorance is the principal enemy of human freedom

  • A free press is indispensable to liberty

  • Guilt and remorse are the severest punishments

Tenth Degree – Elu of the Fifteen

The Tenth Degree expands upon these themes, emphasizing tolerance, justice, and the dangers of fanaticism. It calls upon Masons to stand firmly against oppression and persecution, using education and enlightenment as their tools.

Key Lessons:

  • Ambition can lead to tyranny and despotism

  • Fanaticism breeds intolerance and persecution

  • True strength lies in reason, restraint, and fairness

Together, these degrees challenge us to confront injustice, refine our character, and uphold the principles of truth, liberty, and moral responsibility.

We encourage all Brethren to attend and take part in this powerful evening of instruction and fellowship.

8° Intendant of the Building

8° Intendant of the Building | April 24, 2026 – Santa Monica Masonic Center

8° Intendant of the Building

April 24, 2026 – Santa Monica Masonic Center

The Los Angeles Valley of the Scottish Rite conferred the 8th Degree: Intendant of the Building, directed by Bro. Steve Resnick, 32°.

This degree continues the great work of the Temple, emphasizing the importance of faithful labor, moral discipline, and the responsibility each Mason bears in building both the material and spiritual structures entrusted to his care.

Duties

Be benevolent and charitable.

Lessons

Benevolence and charity require not only kindness toward others, but the courage to correct our own faults and assist others in improving theirs. Knowledge must not be hoarded, but shared — for what a man knows dies with him unless it is passed on. The degree reminds us that labor is honorable when performed with sobriety, temperance, punctuality, and industry.

For Reflection

Is this life more than a portal to another?

Important Symbols

Triple triangle, nine-pointed star, and the colors crimson, green, and white.

We invite all Brethren to attend and take part in this meaningful continuation of the Ineffable Degrees, as we deepen our understanding of duty, charity, and the enduring value of our labors.
